Indonesian Chicken Exports to Japan

Japanese domestic market for broiler products become target of many countries to be able to enter
products. Besides being a great need, the price of chicken meat in Japan is very promising. Price
chicken thighs on average in the Tokyo market today are about U.S. $ 2 per kg. Unlike consumer
Europe and America who prefer the chicken breast, then in Japanese consumers prefer
chicken thigh. Each year Japan imported 560,000 tons of meat, and was ranked No.
4 in the world for chicken products. In Asia, Japan is a country number 3 of importation of chicken products
after Hong Kong and China, each of which imported 850,000 tons and 1.015 million tons per year.
Japan's imports of chicken products were mostly from the U.S., Thailand and China.

Japan imposed strict requirements on hygiene products imported poultry. If
used to import poultry products subject to the terms NA (Non-antibiotics) that do not contain antibiotics on
time after a product that still allows the use of drugs during the maintenance period

(Boneless chicken). Other companies that have been exporting chicken products to Japan
PT Charoen Pokphand is through the RPA (Chicken Slaughterhouse) it in Cikande, Serang, and PT Sierad
Produced Tbk, which has several times the exports to Japan in the form of boneless and Further
product process. PT Sierad on average each month can export 450 tons of chicken products. Some
group of other companies such as Group Wonokoyo is in exploratory stage to perform
exports of whole chicken (whole chicken) to Japan and East Timor.

Based on data from BPS (Central Bureau of Statistics) the volume and value of Indonesian chicken imports during 2000
as much as 411,150 tons worth U.S. $ 9.947 million, in 2001 totaled 567,013 tons worth U.S. $ 9,319,546.
Volume and value of imports of chicken meat in 2000 to as much as 14,017 tons worth U.S. $ 9,473,488 and
dropped sharply in 2001 to 889.477 tons worth U.S. $ 279,551. Instead of volume and value
Indonesian chicken exports increasing steadily each year. In 2000 the volume reached 283,879 tonnes
worth U.S. $ 2,706,756 and 2001 amounted to 61,624 tons with a value of U.S. $ 1,077,855. Volume and value of exports
chicken meat in 2000 reached 708.38 tons with a value of U.S. $ 1,321,294 and in 2001 of
926.73 tons valued at S $ 1,889,016.
